The Best Around! Text Box: A sunless tan does not involve the production of melanin like a natural tan. Instead, a self tanner lotion or spray contains DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), a sugar molecule that creates a tanned appearance in the upper layer of the skin. This stimulates a chain of chemical reactions that causes the cells in the upper epidermis to turn brown. A sunless tan lasts about 5-7 days which is the average life-span of the outer epidermis. Handheld Spray Tanning available at Brazilian Bronze: Self Tanner solution is applied by a handheld machine operated by a technician. The advantages of this application is that it can be customized to your body type and partial body tanning is possible. Tips for Sunless tanning: A California Tan CustomBronzer spray session lasts about 2-4 minutes for the application and about 10 minutes total including pre and post preparation. An Airbrush application can take up to 30 minutes or longer. Arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment. Arrive showered, shaven, free of make-up, oil and moisturizer for optimal results Bring dark, loose fitting clothing to wear after the session. Bring a bathing suit or underwear. It is up to you if you opt to tan nude. Do not wear wool, nylon or silk during or after the spray session and for at least eight hours as the DHA in the spray tanning solution may stain these fabrics. Remove all jewelry before spray tanning. Put on the hair cap with ears, forehead and hairline exposed. Use facial wipes to remove any make-up and deodorant. Apply an even coat of barrier cream (provided) to your palms, the bottom of your feet, nails and cuticles. Lightly sweep barrier cream over the back of your heels. Completion of Spray Session: Once your spray tanning session is complete, your technician will instruct you to wipe off the barrier cream and you will be left alone to dress.
